Samsung Adds Over A Dozen New Dapps To Its Blockchain Keystore

07 Aug 2019

South Korean electronics giant Samsung has added 13 new decentralized applications (dapps) to its Blockchain Keystore app market. The market, which is just five months old, now offers 17 dapps. Samsung has continued to widen the gap with its competition in the blockchain race, with Apple and Huawei, its two biggest competitors lagging behind.

The Blockchain Keystore has supported four dapps since its launch in March 2019. They include a password wallet, social media app and a game. According to a report by CoinDesk, the new dapps will span diverse sectors, from social media to entertainment and gaming. Speaking to CoinDesk Korea, Samsung revealed that Anpan, a social media app and The Hunters, an entertainment app will be among the two to be included in the Keystore.

Samsung has continued to be a trailblazer in the smartphone world, and it’s not about to stop any time soon. The company stated, “Although other companies have not done so yet, we have already made a blockchain wallet and released it.”

The Samsung Blockchain Keystore provides a platform to consolidate and easily manage private information and digital keys with vault-like security. The private keys and any other private information in the Keystore is never backed up to Samsung’s or any other external cloud, nor is it available to the device’s Android OS.

Currently, Samsung’s crypto wallet only supports the storage of Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens.

The South Korean company has also ventured beyond crypto storage, with reports indicating that it was working on its own blockchain mainnet. As reported by CoinGeek, Samsung could launch its own native token, the Samsung Coin which will be built on the Ethereum blockchain.

Other smartphone makers have followed Samsung’s path and started developing crypto wallets and applications as the popularity of crypto surges. Taiwan phone maker HTC debuted its HTC Exodus smartphone this year which comes with its own crypto wallet. As CoinGeek reported, HTC intends to diversify its portfolio, including through investing in digital assets and crypto applications.

American smartphone and electronics giant Apple has also delved into cryptos. The company, which is Samsung’s biggest competitor, launched the crypto development kit during this years’ Worldwide Developer Conference. The tools are meant to enable crypto developers to create applications for the iOS platform.

Note: Tokens on the Bitcoin Core (SegWit) chain are referenced as SegWitCoin BTC coins. Altcoins, which value privacy, anonymity, and distance from government intervention, are referenced as dark coins.

Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV) is today the only Bitcoin project that follows the original Satoshi Nakamoto whitepaper, and that follows the original Satoshi protocol and design. BSV is the only public blockchain that maintains the original vision for Bitcoin and will massively scale to become the world’s new money and enterprise blockchain.
