A travel service agency based in California, Cheapair.com, has begun accepting Ethereum as a mode of payment. The firm is a handful of travel service agencies that will allow customers to pay for their travel and accommodation through cryptocurrencies.While the firm has been in service since 1989, they wish to move ahead with the changing times. This is the reason why they have mentioned the numerous payment options on their website such as credit cards, cryptocurrency, and direct money transfer. Addition of altcoins as a form of payment is a clear indicator of how people prefer paying using altcoins such as Dash, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, etc. as they are easier to use and the transaction fee is less too, reported news portal Coinnounce.Ethereum was the fourth cryptocurrency to be added after Litecoin, Dash and Bitcoin Cash and customers will have to install Metamask to make payments.While this is the first time, a travel agency has decided to accept cryptocurrency as payment, in the past several airlines have begun accepting cryptocurrency too. In March last year, Carlos Vargas, the superintendent of country’s cryptocurrency department, tweeted that airlines in Venezuela can now sell tickets in Petro and other cryptocurrencies, in-line with instructions from President Nicolas Maduro.In July last year, Singapore Airlines (SIA), launched its digital blockchain wallet, KrisPay that allows members of KrisFlyer, carriers frequent flying programme, to convert air miles into digital currency.At the time, SIA chief executive Goh Choon Phong had said, “We are excited to be introducing KrisPay, a novel way for our KrisFlyer members to digitally access their miles at their fingertips, at any time.”Mr Jan Reinmueller, Head of Digital Village, KPMG, Singapore had added, “By building on our track record in business model innovation and digital transformation, KPMG Digital Village was selected to help SIA with their customer loyalty programme.”Liked what you read?
