Tim Draper Lashes Out At Indian Government

19 Jul 2019

As we had earlier covered, the proposed bill banning cryptocurrency trading, circulated online, has elicited various reactions, both at home and international. The latest to voice his displeasure is Tim Draper, who is a venture capital investor and founder of Draper Associates, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Draper University, among others. In a tweet dated July 16, Draper slammed the Indian government saying, “People behaving badly! India’s government banned Bitcoin, a currency providing great hope for prosperity in a country that desperately needs it. Shame on India leadership. Pathetic and corrupt. #India #bitcoin”Naturally, people were not happy about the misinformation being spread by Draper. People, especially Indians took to reply to the tweet. One user said, “Tim, Cryptocurrency is not, and has never been illegal in India.Next court session is on July 23rd.” Other users slammed Draper for his very harsh tweet against India.Other Indian users said, “No such official news yet, it’s a rumoured draft. May happen in future because govt. is not so positive but still nothing like ban here in India. We are positive and fighting. #IndiaWantsCrypto.”People behaving badly! India's government banned Bitcoin, a currency providing great hope for prosperity in a country that desperately needs it. Shame on India leadership. Pathetic and corrupt. #India #bitcoin— Tim Draper (@TimDraper) July 17, 2019Not only is, Draper wrong on the information about the bill, calling a government pathetic and corrupt is not okay, especially of an emerging country. McAfee stated his opinions too, but in a more restrained manner. The difference in tone in both the tweets is stark. For Draper’s benefit, let us recap, what we have already published a couple of days back. The proposed bill is a draft and given the fact, that it has not been signed by any government official makes it hard to verify the authenticity of a document.Liked what you read?
